CUET 2022 | CUCET 2022

CUCET: A-Z of CUET: All You Need To Know About the Upcoming Entrances

What is CUET?

The Government of India, under the New Education Policy has declared the Central Universities Entrance Test a mandatory admission requirement, for any student aiming to seek admission into Under Graduate programs in central universities (over 45 and more) from the academic session 2022-23.

Why CUET?

The test is an attempt at changing and moulding the workings of the education system of the country, by shifting emphasis from rote learning to developing the critical thinking ability of the students. This would also bring to halt the craze that the country witnesses every year with unseemly high cut offs, the most sought after central universities come out with.

Conducted by The National Testing Agency (NTA), CUCET (CUET) 2022 will dismiss the student’s board result as the solecriteria for the admission. Centralized for top universities like Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University, Central University of Punjab, and Jawaharlal Nehru University, the test is ensured to give a respite to the students by only having to prepare and appear for one common test instead of appearing for multiple entrance tests, saving time efforts and money.

Eligibility Criteria:

Granted liberty, the universities are free to decide the minimum eligibility criteria for the admission. However, the CUCET score would still remain a significant factorwith a relaxation of 5% for SC/ST applicants

Test Pattern:

Expected to be conducted during the third week of May, 2022, the two hour exam will be divided into two segments, with 100 questions in total-

  1. Domain Knowledge- This section will test the aspirants in domain knowledge.

Number of Questions- 75

  1. General Ability- This section will cover topics based on General Awareness, English Language, Analytical Skills, and Mathematical Aptitude.

Number of Questions- 25

The Domain specific section is expected to have 27 subjects, from which a student can choose up to 6 subjects.

.

For the Domain Specific part of the test, students are advised to choose language and subjects, which they have studied in class 12th board. Moreover, the students are also advised to keep checking the website of respective universities frequently, in which they will seek admission.

Syllabus:

The exam’s syllabus will consist of various topics from 11th and 12th academic syllabus along with topics relating to General Awareness, English Language, Analytical Skills, and Mathematical Aptitude.

Marking Scheme:

Each correct answer will carry reward 1 mark, whilst any question answered incorrectly will incur a deduction of 0.25 marks.

Importance of CUET:

The test has been introduced with an all-inclusive approach, aiming to provide a similar footing to every student regardless of the board they studied from. The approach is paramount as it will help bring in a sense of uniformityacross different boards in awarding 12th marks, and eliminating the previously practiced marks based discrimination; preventing students from seeking admission in the prestigious universities and colleges of their choice.

CUET is also said to provide a single-window platform, making admissions more streamlined & student-friendly, time efficient, and would also cut down the money spent on various entrance exam fees and coaching alike.

The CUET test is expected to give a breather to the mania of admissions to central universities the students witness every year and give them all a fairer chance at admissions. Received as a welcoming move, this new concept is expected to bring to the conventional academic paradigm by focusing more on conceptual understanding, critical thinking, comprehensive skills, & decision-making ability rather than cramming the stagnant syllabus. This reformative process will not only reduce the burden on students but colleges and universities alike, shifting the face of  the entire education system by bringing in objectivity to the admission processes and by providing equitable opportunity to the candidates, making it easier for them to appear in a unified national level parasol examination.
